Partial Solar Eclipse

  • Taken by: Kevin Scofield

  • Taken with: Canon 7D, 1/800sec, f-5.6, 600mm Lens
  • Description: Photographed through the trees and through a #14 Welders Glass plate
  • Taken by: Kevin Scofield
  • Location: Morrison, CO
  • Date: October 23, 2014
  • Taken with: Canon 7D
  • Description: One of the easiest and safest ways to view the Sun, especially during an eclipse, is to project its image onto a white illustration board.
There are many methods that work well for viewing the Sun including the use of a homemade pinhole camera or a pinhole projector.
I decided to use our metal pasta strainer for the making of this image. Photographed off white board.

Perseid Meteor

  • Location: Tinytown, CO
  • Date: August 12, 2013
  • Kevin Scofield Blog
  • Description: Gave it a shot last night (3 am this morning) We hiked up to the "Sky Deck" located on the mountain that shadows our property. It was not a good night for photography as we had some low level clouds that moved in around 4am and ruined my night sky. Clouds tend to glow as opposed to a nice "black" sky. We did however log some 40 or so meteors and 4 or 5 satellites, unfortunately no fire balls!
A single meteor captured in photo... The globes were caused by long exposure lens flare. Image was captured looking towards the East/North East and using a 14mm lens at f3.5 on a Canon D7 with a 25 second exposure...
